Speech in Reply to Addrcsses Presented by the Kashmiri Students’ Federation and the Rajputana Muslim
Students’ Federation, Aligarh, April 1, 1939.
the Rajputana Students had clearly stated in their address that their goal was complete national, cultural and political independence. A few days ago the Working Committee of the All India Muslim League at Meerut had laid down our policy regarding Indian States, namely we advise the Muslims in the States to organize themselves and resist tyranny, and the Muslim League would render every assistance to them wherever they may be. No geographical limits can divide the children of islam. About our ideals there was no doubt now. But how are we going to achieve them? It is in the hands of the Muslims themselves. I am glad that they are realizing it now They must first grasp the fundamental principle of their existence and then back it up with all sacrifice.
I have been to Kashmir and have seen the miserable lot of Muslim leaders, specially Mr. Abdullah, to have been misled they have fallen not into the hands of their friends but their foes just as many of our brethren in British India. have fallen into the trap. Our first task is to rescue Muslims from falling into the clutches of their opponents. When you go to Kashmir ask. your leader to spare the Muslim League and confine

himself to the betterment of his own people. Many people, who used to say that the Muslim League was in the wrong, today admit it is right. I hope Mr. Abdullab, tor whom I have great respect, will also realize that we tire right. We will help the Kashmirs but you must make the League stronger and avoid falling into the hands of our enemies. I am fully alive to the problem of Kashmir. I am sure with the cooperati0n of the Muslim League and the Muslims of Kashmir we shall yet rescue Kashmir
The methods of fight have to be regulated ccordiflg to the time and the forces ranged against us. Learn and study and find your way out. Old weapons and old methods of attack are gone. Aeroplanes have now come and can destroy the mightiest fleet i no time. I ask the Musims to study and find the latest methods and weapons of carrying on the fight and the struggle, and success will be assured.

The days of sitting in gilded chairs and playing with politics or amusement arc gone. Grim reality and struggle stare us in the face.
You must be prepared, he said to sacrifice anything and everything in the cause of your people. his struggle of life and death for the Mussalmans If you want to live with honour and play your part worthily, secure in your elementary rights, you must make up your mind that this struggle has to be fought to a finish.
What contribution, he asked, were the students making to the progress and consolidation of the Muslim League? When a man grows rich, everybody flocks round him and claims him as his relation. The same seems to be the case with the Muslim League. I am glade everybody is claiming the Muslim League as his own.
